Spring has Sprung

In fact it almost feels like Summer!  The weather is hot and very dry - we haven't had rain for weeks which is a great thing for holiday-makers but not so good for the garden which we've had to work hard at watering.  Still, it's always a reward to be out in the garden listening to the birdsong from the huge numbers of visitors to our bird tables.

This Spring we've been delighted to see lots of birds of prey - from kites and marsh harriers to the elusive rough-leg buzzards.  We saw five buzzards together the other day which was a real treat.  The bluebells have been prolific this year and the forests and shady patches have abounded with a carpet of blue making our countryside walks even more beautiful.

Happy New Year

2011 was welcomed with blue skies and a fresh breeze.  It's quite chilly which means we've a lot of birds visiting the garden to nibble on the huge amounts of seeds and nuts we have out at the moment.  It seems that the birds are coming in big groups to dine at Poplar Hall!
